NetBSD was supporting IDE (ATAPI) CD writers back when cdrecord's own
author (using LINUX?) said that it only worked with SCSI drives.  On
NetBSD "it just worked", as I recall.

(I think that GNU/LINUX systems can now also support such drives with
cdrecord...)

I should mention that I don't have first-hand experience with the ATAPI/IDE
CD writers, but it should work.  (^&
