XFree86 4 is a little different than XFree86 3. I have used
a Voodoo 3 under 1.6.1/XFree86 4, and it works fine...

I don't think so. It doesn't look to me as if the error is
actually coming from the MTRR setting attempt. [Google for
"post hoc, ergo prompter hoc". ;-)]

Try "XFree86 -configure", then move the configuration file thus
created to "/etc/X11/XF86Config", and try again. That should at
least get you past the errors from unrelated drivers.
