I think there is: krb5.buildlink3.mk includes heimdals buildlink3.mk
where there are some tests to determine whether the systems heimdal
libs are sufficient or heimdal from pkgsrc is needed.

However, I found a solution to my problem: adding 'heimdal' to
PREFER_PKGSRC.
