I ran 'make cleandir' before attempting to build the tools.
cleandir Same as clean, but also remove preformatted documentation,
dependency files generated by ``make depend'', and any other
files known to be created at build time.
If the obj symlinks were created at build time, shouldn't 'make
cleandir' remove them?
