Does pkg_chk really need pkgsrc to update packages? Maybe you can use
'pkg_chk -kib' and set PACKAGES in mk.conf to the location where your
binaries are.. 
A local path (nfs mount) should work but i don't know if you can also
use a www/ftp-address.
