I find that these two packages from pkgsrc/wip are needed in addition to
cups and hpijs:
foomatic-filters-3.0.1 Spooler independent postscript printing filter
foomatic-filters-cups-3.0.1 CUPS support for foomatic-filters
With this package set (plus the appropriate PPD files), I'm able to
print to both basic InkJets as well as Postscript capable printers.
