Well, as no one can help me (or Sverre) with our quaint PCMCIA  modem card problems, having googled to the point of goggling, I humbly ask you: 

Do you advise buying and trying another card, a "genuine hardware, Linux compatible" pc card I have seen (don't remember the make), or should I just cut my losses and get a USB (US Robotics) modem?
