FWIW I have had better results having downgraded, from -current 3.99.16 to 2.0-RELEASE, and now using the unmodified GENERIC_LAPTOP kernel - only slightly ironic in so far as I had imagined that a -current setup was more or less _de rigeur_ for runing a fully-featured laptop - at least for one that requires ACPI (soon?). I haven't actually got a workable connection yet, but at least I have got a ppp0 thing going... TBC
