You'll need to say in your XF86Config which keymap to use, see
http://www.netbsd.org/Documentation/x/#x-keyboard-maps.

While here: I feel in love with a Dell X300 some time ago, and
wonder if it runs NetBSD properly. Can you tell me if

  * suspend/resule
  * wlan & ethernet
  * pcmcia/cardbus
  * X (what resolution?)
  * sound

work properly, and what NetBSD version you tried?
Maybe mail me a dmesg? Thanks!
