FWIW, I have NetBSD running on a 68K machine, practically invulnerably.
I have tried installing several Linuxes on a Mac 9500 and on a Q950,
and was not even able to install them satisfactorily.
Debian in particular seemed rather fragile; failure in installing
window managers actually zapped the disk!
Of course, Linux in general is known to be better at Intel
architecture...
