I use the iwi device in a Inspiron 9300 and have similar problems.

Try

ifconfig iwi0 down
ifconfig iwi0 up
dhclient iwi0

this gets usually gets me going again.

Also ensure that the radio is actually switched on by the bios, e.g. WiFi LED 
is illuminated.
