I'd have an idea it's an window manager you are looking for, I'd assume
that is correct for my reply. It's the part of X that gives you the
windows, starting the programs at startup etc. Please note that the
window manager belongs to the server.
You got an terminal, I'd assume you got an green screen with a clock and
three terminals, and a mouse marker you could move around. If so, you
are got an correct setup of X, and you may go ahead and install another
window manager. Maybe the desktop has got a little too big, in that
case, try to move the mouse out of the screen, maybe the desktop will
scroll.
First, the window manager has to be installed by the usual pkgsrc way,
select one and install it. Thereafter X have to be altered to use the
new WM. You may copy /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc to your home dir and rename
it .xinitrc . X will look in your home dir first, and if .xinitrc is
found, that one will be used. Now, look into .xinitrc, and at the bottom
you will find a line conaining "twm &", which is the twm WM. I'd got
Gnome, and the twm line and the xterm and xclock are remmed out ( #
first letter of comment line ) and "gnome-session" are added as the last
line.
Hope it helps.
Cincerely, Sigmund
