Is your /etc/rc.d/ really up-to-date?

Get the latest sources for your release (were you running NetBSD 3.1 -- if yes, 
"cvs update -dPA -r netbsd-3-1" will fetch you 3.1.1) and run "postinstall fix" 
followed by "etcupdate".
