1.3.1 compiles and works well (-classic vm) on NetBSD/i386
1.4 will likely want to wait until SA's are merged.

Unfortunately, netbsd do not have a license to distribute jdk binary
distributions, so you'd need to download the source yourself (agreeing
to Sun's license etc), then you can grab the bsd java patches from (no
idea actually - but the freebsd port thing should have a link,
I must do a pkgsrc pkg for this...)
and then it should build ok - on i386.  

I believe some folk have built on other platforms but I'm not sure of
status.

Generally they work as well as they do on linux ;-)
Though again you are likely limited to the classic vm.
