Hello,
Unfortunately not strictly NetBSD related, but since NetBSD people are
smart people and probably would enjoy working in the given environment...
Yahoo! is looking for a senior system administrator (SAGE level III - IV)
to help with the day-to-day maintenance of Yahoo!'s corporate and
production servers worldwide. Think big.
Most of the hosts are running FreeBSD and RHEL, with a number of Solaris
machines among them. We are looking for experienced SAs who:
- can troubleshoot all kinds of problems that crop up (ie ability to
analyze tcpdumps, kernel-userland interactions, system limitations,
filesystem quirks etc.); we are very much operating under Murphy's law
based on the size of our network ("Probability is like gravity -- you
can't negotiate with gravity.")
- understand the implications of operating on a large scale (think several
tens of thousands of hosts) with high-availability requirements
- have a detailed understanding of DNS, TCP and all other common protocols
Insert standard SA-type job-posting requirements ("fluent in at least one
system language (sh, perl, etc.)", "excellent written and verbal skills",
yaddayaddayadda) here.
This position is a lot of fun, allows you to work with a team of very
smart and diverse people and probably challenges you in many ways that
other jobs could not.
This position is not about installing, configuring and maintaining
individual applications (such as a web server, a mail server etc.), even
though a thorough understanding of how these work is obviously essential.
This position requires participation in the regular on-call rotation
(currently limited to daytime hours).
This position is in Sunnyvale, CA.
If you're interested, email me your resume in .txt, .html or .pdf format.
-Jan
