I believe there is an option in smb.conf to set the timeout, called
deadtime. If you want to set a rediculously long timeout, I think there is
another smb.conf option to set SO_KEEPALIVE, called ``socket options.''
however, it's been a long time since i've used Samba.

I think you'll find what you need from a careful read of smb.conf(5).  You
can search for the options I named above if your'e in a hurry.
