Subject: Problem with telnet/ftp/ssh out of machine

Machine is on the internet. I can telnet into it and can ping out of it.
However when I try telnet machinexxxx I get a message:

telnet: Unable to connect to remote hostL Can't assign requested address

same thing for nslookup and ftp. ssh gives a slightly different message

running on i386/netbsd 1.5
