It would write to a file called
`ls /etc| Mail bob@there`
wouldn't it? After all, the backquotes only appear *after* $1 has been
expanded, at which point there's no more work being done:
$ x='`echo bar`'
$ echo "$x"
`echo bar`
> Could also write outside $tapedir using '..'
Mmm...good point. I should probably fail if any slashes or initial
periods are detected.
