In this case, "upgrade all your software" is sadly impossible.

Some software don't work with postgresql 7.3 or later but 7.2.

AFAIK, rt2 (pkgsrc/devel/rt-pgsql/) and a freely available groupware
software in Japan (http://wiz.syscon.co.jp/ in Japaneses).
And postgresql72 package might be help for these case.
