dhcpcd(8) setup problems
All,
so dhcpcd is the next great thing after sliced bread, I hear, and I
am trying to set up a late-September netbsd-5 installation with it...
hasn't gone too well, so far.
The machine wants to start ntpd and ypbind during network startup. From setting
dhcpcd=YES dhcpcd_flags="-d"
I gather that dhcpcd backgrounds itself right after being started,
then continues to try and acquire an IP address.
Apparently, on this machine (a 500 MHz PIII), network daemons get
started before dhcpcd is successful, i.e. we seem to have a nice,
nasty race condition here. And while dhcpcd is rich on commandline
options, I could not find a way of keeping it in the foreground until
it has secured an IP address.
dhclient, OTOH, just works.
Unfortunately, there is little information on the daemon beyond the
man pages - <http://www.netbsd.org/docs/network/dhcp.html> is still
ISC, only.
What important bits am I missing?
