/etc/ttys, keymap, and X
Good Day,
Running NetBSD 5.1 -current amd64 with src.tar.gz downloaded on 02/23.
<from /var/log/messages 02/26/2011>
Feb 26 18:11:44 ****** /netbsd: NetBSD 5.99.45 (KERNEL_022411-$Revision:
0.0 $) #0: Thu Feb 24 20:21:12 CST 2011

Built new tools and world and installed yesterday.
I have been running NetBSD 5.1 -stable amd64 and i386 on two machines
and PcBSD 8.1 i386 on a third. One arch i386 machine has had NetBSD
running since 09/2010 with no problems though it does not run X. My
problem on this machine (amd64 - DFI LanParty MB) is that I have no ttys
to switch to using Ctrl-Alt-F# and do not seem to be able to edit
/etc/ttys correctly. I have read 'man ttys' but maybe not good enough.
When I turn on 'constty' and ttyE0 - tty E3, the login screen (tty0?)
doesn't let me login;
/etc/ttys
console "/usr/libexec/getty Pc" vt100 on secure
constty "/usr/libexec/getty Pc" vt100 off secure
ttyE0 "/usr/libexec/getty Pc" vt220 off secure
ttyE1 "/usr/libexec/getty Pc" vt220 off secure
ttyE2 "/usr/libexec/getty Pc" vt220 off secure
ttyE3 "/usr/libexec/getty Pc" vt220 off secure
tty00 "/usr/libexec/getty std.9600" unknown off secure
tty01 "/usr/libexec/getty std.9600" unknown off secure
tty02 "/usr/libexec/getty std.9600" unknown off secure
tty03 "/usr/libexec/getty std.9600" unknown off secure
tty04 "/usr/libexec/getty std.9600" unknown off secure
tty05 "/usr/libexec/getty std.9600" unknown off secure
tty06 "/usr/libexec/getty std.9600" unknown off secure
tty07 "/usr/libexec/getty std.9600" unknown off secure
Also, I cannot seem to get X to start. I have done 'X -configure' as
well as just 'xinit' or 'startx'. The screen blanks and the keyboard
quits working. The machine had an ATI PCIe card in one slot but I broke
it and am using an old S3 Virge card in one PCI slot until the new one
comes.

Finally, it seems the keymap is wrong because when I hit any of the
Insert/Home/Delete/PgUp/PgDn keys, control characters are displayed and
the intended action does not happen. Makes it kind of hard to use mc
and I can't figure it out. Sorry for the long post. Any help is
greatly appreciated.
Michael
