You're right for 100Base-T and 100Base-TX which use two pairs over Cat-5
cabling (and one pair is dedicated to either send or receive with a crossover
cable); but I seem to recall that collisions still happen with a 100Base-T4
crossover cable, which uses four pairs rather than two.
Moot point when considering a TX NIC, though....
