Determining flavor of Intel NIC
I'm playing with an old motherboard that has a couple Intel NICs
onboard:
fxp0 at pci0 dev 13 function 0: i82559 Ethernet, rev 8
fxp0: interrupting at ioapic0 pin 17
fxp0: Ethernet address 00:e0:81:20:84:98
inphy0 at fxp0 phy 1: i82555 10/100 media interface, rev. 4
fxp1 at pci0 dev 14 function 0: i82559 Ethernet, rev 8
fxp1: interrupting at ioapic0 pin 18
fxp1: Ethernet address 00:e0:81:20:84:99
inphy1 at fxp1 phy 1: i82555 10/100 media interface, rev. 4
I noticed that fxp(4) includes this information:
Certain versions of the i8255x support loading microcode...known as
"CPUSaver."
Among the chips reported to have this is...
i82559 step A0 (rev 8)
Is "rev 8" another way to specify "step A0" or "step A0 (rev 8)" a very
particular version of this chip? If the latter, how can I figure out if
this chip supports "CPUSaver" (i.e. if it's "rev 8" _and_ "step A0")?
Thanks,
Mike
