I would also suggest trying: turn off ntpd run ntpdate run ntptrace and log the results, so you know if you got close wait 1h, or 24h run ntptrace (or maybe run it every hour and log it) If the system clock doesn't basically work, then ntpd is not going to have great success. If it has minor issues - frequency error, occasional lost ticks, then ntpd will cope.
