ntp/ntpdate and NAT

Hello,

If I understand correctly, the time offset are computed taking into
account the time the ICMP messages spent going from a time server to the
client requesting it. But does a NAT rewrite happening in between have
an impact on this computation? since both ends are unaware of the
masquerading and the time server could give informations related to the
delta to the gateway and not to the whole path till the client?

Or has the gateway doing NAT the obligation to have special rules for
this ntp port destination, precisely in order to not spoil the ICMP
informations?

TIA
