is powerd supposed to work any more?

Folks,

I haven't looked at powerd for a long time because suspend/resume didn't
work on my laptop but with some execllent work by some developers I now
have a laptop that suspensds and resumes correctly.  Now I notice that
powerd doesn't seem to be getting any events at all - have we moved on
from powerd to some other mechanism or do I have something wrong?
