I run estd not for power-saving, but to keep the CPU temperature
low (which it does lower--by ~5 C :)). As for its function, I think
what it does is better done in the kernel than by a userland program.

On the whole, estd is not very useful, either to keep the CPU cool
or to save a whole lot of power (in my case, I don't use the laptop
off the charger--it functions like a desktop): see the CAVEATS
section of acpicpu(4).
