You need to gunzip the files and then give both of them to crash,
i.e.
gunzip /var/crash/netbsd.3.core.gz
gunzip /var/crash/netbsd.4.gz
crash -M /var/crash/netbsd.3.core -N /var/crash/netbsd.4
