I hoped to skimp on tools :) But well... I did try not to build full release.
I did build tools ./build.sh -U tools then kernel ./build.sh kernel=myconfbut kernel build fails. I thought to have gootten a bad CVS release, updated and now tool fails :(
I will report on netbsd current, since for pratical purposes it is an issue of building current on i386... debugging nouveau will come later!
