The question is whether this should be part of the official release only
or done too for the daily builds.

For official releases it would be OK to be semi-automated (but ideally
the new images should be tested somehow before being published and so
far we neither have some automatic setup for those tests nor volunteers
to test manually).

For the daily build the process would have to be fully automatic, and
the images would be untested.

I am not useing AWS, so my motivation to spend time on this is not very
high, but I'll happily help with any parts of releng script- or process
integration.
