This all makes sense to me, but from a users perspective I would expect
it to all work automatically if I plug the USB connector in.

If we could make the USB umass attach code trigger a (delayed) START
UNIT this would solve the case where a device is plugged in later, but
it also will force all umass disks to start at boot time.

Just force PQUIRK_START for all usb attached sd* ?
