It's expected to take some time to get gcc 3.0, that's unfortunate but
can't be changed easily. About the crash of gcc 2.95, I can at best guess
what's happening, but if you want to try it, you could set some
process limits higher (see e.g. the csh "limit" command), and then see
what happens. I'd expect gcc to print that it's running out of memory
though, instead of aborting with an internal compiler error.
FWIW, I've committed the change to require gcc 3.0 on sparc64 to the
centericq package, and closed the PR.
