 Just for the record,
 
 the problem also exists in SuSE 8.1. Jeremy's patch does work here with 
 the following modifications:
 
 LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/pkg/lib USER_LDFLAGS=-L/usr/pkg/lib ./configure 
 --with-qt-dir=/usr/pkg/qt3 --with-qt-libraries=/usr/pkg/qt3/lib
 LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/pkg/lib make
 LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/pkg/lib make install
 
 To fake afterwards the installation of the package, do a
 
 cd /usr/pkgsrc/audio/arts/work
 touch .configure_done
 touch .build_done
 
 cd /usr/pkgsrc/audio/arts/
 bmake install
