How old is this work directory?
The Hermes dependency was removed last November: "The Hermes dependency is
not really needed."
Also, it was reported that Hermes caused problems for Windowmaker. The
Hermes site doesn't have the download anymore (I have not tracked down
where it is now). I have also read that Hermes is no longer relevant for
Windowmaker.

There is not a maintainer for Windowmaker and wmakerconf packages. Most
pkgsrc maintainers are volunteers. (I have been lucky on a few paid jobs
to do pkgsrc work though.)
Hermes was not removed from pkgsrc.
As for me, I didn't (and still don't) understand what your PR wanted.
