The problem appears when I try to use kannel with Motorola E398 GSM through usb 
cable. The modem is recognized as:

Using "cu" allows to correctly communicate with the GSM modem (using AT 
commands). The system device for that is /dev/ttyU0.

When I try to start kannel (bearerbox) the communication with the modem fails:
