In order to get appropriate ssl-guarded mail-sending, I had to add the 
cyrus-sasl fleet.  Below is my list of relevant packages.  I'm not sure if 
there is a metaport for them or not.

These should be depended on somehow as they are necessary for the appropriate 
function of kmail.

try to send via smtps with kmail without having added the cyrus-sasl packages 
separately

install the mentioned packages as a short-term solution.  Make them 
dependencies as a long-term solution.
