PKGSRC was installed on this machine about a month ago.  CVS was installed via pkgsrc today (version 'Concurrent Versions System (CVS) 1.11.21 (client/server)').
While trying to update packages collection:

nts@pigeon /opt/local/nts/netbsd-pkgsrc/pkgsrc$ cvs up -dP
anoncvs.netbsd.org: Connection refused
cvs [update aborted]: end of file from server (consult above messages if any)

tried updating individual package:

nts@pigeon /opt/local/nts/netbsd-pkgsrc/pkgsrc/www/firefox$ cvs up
anoncvs.netbsd.org: Connection refused
cvs [update aborted]: end of file from server (consult above messages if any)

which results in the same error
It takes about 30 seconds for this error to pop up.
