 mkdir is /bin/mkdir
 exit 1
 make: exec(exit) failed (No such file or directory)
 
 I guess this could have to do with /etc/profile or ~/.shrc.  However,
 using ${MKDIR} like at every other instance in the script solves that
 problem.
