Similar certainly, and perhaps the same underlying cause, but
without a better analysis of the cause, they might not be quite
the same thing - the binary package that was installed in my
 case was the current version.

It has been a while since I had the opportunity to install an
older binary package version, as I mostly keep them all up to date,
and sort the builds to dependencies get built before anything that
needs them (and all the old binary packages get moved away before
 any rebuilding starts anyway).

I'm not certain, but I suspect that I would have also tried
building mklivecd when cdrtools-ossdvd was already installed
(as the result of a previous attempt) - that never worked in
my case, only removing it (cleaning the sandbox) and (re)moving
the binary package sufficed as a workaround.
