 I don't think the Solaris userland is as broken as you think. 
 <stdbool.h> has been introduced by C99, so requiring a C99 compiler for 
 using it doesn't seem to be a wrong choice to me.
 
 If your opinion differs, please explain in greater detail than just 
 "it's broken and must die".
