So do you have the X11 development packages installed on your Ubuntu Linux
 system?

yes I have tons of -dev packages installed including everything X11 related, x-dev transitional too.
 

 Or do you want to use pkgsrc to provide the X11 libraries and headers? If
 you want to use headers from pkgsrc then set X11_TYPE=modular in your
 mk.conf. (This will mean your Ubuntu system will have two installs of X11
 libraries.)

I would like if possible to use the ubuntu host X11 libraries to minimize disk usage.
