XSel is a command-line program for manipulating the X selection and clipboard. 
It supports internationalized text, getting and setting selections, keeping 
selections in memory, and other capabilities.

XSel is by far the superior of x11/xclip (xsel supports UTF-8, can append into 
selection, doesn't have an extra dependency on libXmu, has a more permissive 
license and is still maintained).
