some of
CVS operations like checkout or diff seem to succeed, operations like `cvs log' 
which
requires walking through log entries fails:
cvs [log aborted]: EOF while looking for end of string in RCS file 
/home/source/netbsd/cvs/pkgsrc/math/capc-calc/patches/patch-aa,v

I also tried removing this RCS file and cvsup the repository again to make sure
it's not a local problem.  I've been cvsup'ing from cvsup.us.NetBSD.org, and 
I'm not
sure if the original CVS repository has this corrupted RCS file too.
