 The original description says:
         gimp 2.4.6 dosen't seem to work and core dump at startup time.
 
 Even if there is a misunderstanding, I don't think gimp should core at 
 startup.
 
 Or did you go out of the way, to cause this problem?
 
 If the problem occurs by default, then maybe this ticket should stay open?
 
 (I haven't had this problem myself.)
