As far as I can tell it may have fixed the problem. It just built for me on a fresh bootstrap of pkgsrc-current on solaris 10 x86 w/gcc (32 bit).
I was able to build the package unmodified. But I recommend adding my patch anyway, because it is a waste of time to compile examples (that according to the upstream documentation are bound to fail), and then throw them away. And as a personal bonus: The dependencies seem to have changed and I don't even need this package anymore...
