I guess the versions currently in use would be
 - 1.8.7 (which is now available on windows and OS X too so unless you
inflict them on yourself you should not have compatibility issues with
1.8.7 anymore)
 - current 1.9 version (would be 1.9.2 now I guess)
 - possibly previous 1.9 version when the current is fresh and there
are issues with some libraries running on it (not right now but will
happen again it the future I guess)
