Resolved locally by submitter (general solution is not really feasible)
also, in the long run more and more stuff will be threaded so fighting the
tide probably isn't worthwhile. (And, in the long run apache 1.3 is dead...)

If you want to know the background of the dlopen+pthreads thing grab me on
