 As suggested in http://trac.macports.org/ticket/33947, simply adding the line:
 
 CPPFLAGS+=     -DGLIB_COMPILATION
 
 to chat/meanwhile's Makefile appears to at least result in a
 successful build without the need for extensive patching.
