 This is probably PR 40401. Judging from the contents of that PR, it's
 not getting fixed anytime soon, so removing --gc-sections seems like a
 necessary step.

 ...and unless you're running 5.1_STABLE from March or newer this may
 be PR 40594 (or one of several other related ptrace problems) and not
 (strictly speaking) related.
