I use xfce (installed from pkgsrc) started from xdm via xfce4-session
in my ~/.xsession. Whenever I log in, the console is spammed with a
bunch of messages like this:

Feb  9 13:21:19 night-owl pulseaudio[759]: [(null)] module-hal-detect.c: Unable 
to contact DBUS system bus: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.FileNotFound: Failed to 
connect to socket /var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket: No such file or directory
Feb  9 13:21:19 night-owl pulseaudio[759]: [(null)] module.c: Failed to load 
module "module-hal-detect" (argument: ""): initialization failed.
Feb  9 13:21:19 night-owl pulseaudio[759]: [(null)] main.c: Module load failed.
Feb  9 13:21:19 night-owl pulseaudio[759]: [(null)] main.c: Failed to 
initialize daemon.

Besides fixing that, it might be good to have an option to completely remove
sound support from xfce.
